Still Life Painting

By Jaclyn Kim

The focus of this piece centers around the themes of nostalgia and the fear of growing up. Items were chosen to symbolize objects that are no longer enjoyable or usable for me, such as my childhood toys, books, and a broken camera. The experience is bittersweet, as I come to terms with the realization that items which held such value for my younger self are now simply discarded relics of memories. This piece serves as my final childish tantrum against growing up, my reluctance to let go of my childhood before finally closing the lid and storing it away. In a sense, it is an attempt to recapture my life once more, much like how I have always attempted with my broken camera.
